Library Procedures

Thank you, parents and students, for the excellent return rate for the school year of 2005-2006. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in valuing our library materials. We acknowledge the support of parents in helping their children remember to return materials when they are due and replacing them should they become lost or damaged.

A reminder that we do accept misplaced materials at any time and we do charge the price as entered in our computer system for lost or damaged materials. Three items are checked out per student for one week. They can be returned at the next class session or earlier. An item can be renewed up to two times only if no one else is waiting for the item. Items can be put on hold.

First through fifth grades are allowed one video/DVD per visit along with a magazine and book or 1-2 books. The entertainment videos/DVDs are donated to us and are rated G. Kindergarteners and first graders must check out a “beginner reader” during each visit, something they can learn to read on their own.

Magazines can be taken home in a waterproof bag; please do not write in them or tear them so others may enjoy them as well. We encourage students to bring in their gently used magazines to share if they wish.

We welcome parents to visit our school library at any time. You are encouraged to borrow any materials you wish; there are a variety of books available in the office hallway on various topics. We appreciate suggestions for expanding our collection.

Part of the weekly class sessions are devoted to individual book choice. My assistant Mrs. Eichholz and myself are available to help students find a topic they are interested in or look up a title on the computer. We also have wonderful parent volunteers ready to help during most class sessions. You, as parents, are encouraged to have input in your child's selection. Either send in a note to us or to the teacher or call if you have certain expectations of your child.

Please share the joy of reading with your child as often as you can.
